If your frame is fine but your lenses aren’t — scratched, the wrong power, or just tired — you don’t need a whole new pair. You can put new lenses in your existing frame. The question most people ask first is simple: how much will it cost?
Here’s an honest breakdown of spectacle lens replacement prices in India, what drives the price up or down, and the extra charges that catch people out.
Quick answer: typical lens replacement prices
Prices below are for both lenses and are what you pay at Viszy, with free doorstep pickup and drop included.
| Lens type | Good for | Price (both lenses) |
|---|---|---|
| Single vision with blue-cut + anti-glare | Distance, reading or zero power | from ₹800 |
| Premium single vision (near-invisible coating) | Video calls, photos, night driving | ₹1,600 |
| Photochromic (light-adaptive) | Indoors and outdoors in one pair | ₹2,500 |
| Bifocal | Near and far, with a visible line | from ₹1,800 |
| Progressive (no-line) | Near, middle and far, no line | ₹2,800 – ₹4,500 |
At a local optician or an eyewear store, basic single vision lens replacement commonly sits in a similar range, but the final bill often includes things that aren’t on the price card.
What decides the price of new lenses
1. Lens type
Single vision lenses correct one distance and are the most affordable. Bifocals add a second reading zone, and progressives blend three zones with no line — they take more precise manufacturing and fitting, so they cost more.
2. Coatings
Anti-glare, blue-cut, scratch-resistant and water-repellent coatings each add cost at many shops. At Viszy, blue-cut and anti-glare come standard on every single vision lens, so there’s nothing to add on.
3. Lens thickness (index)
Higher powers need thinner, higher-index material so the lens doesn’t look thick in the frame. We pick the right thickness for your power, so you don’t have to guess.
4. Your frame
Full-rim frames are the simplest to refit. Half-rim frames need a groove cut into the lens, and rimless frames need drilling — more work, and not every rimless frame can be safely refitted.
Hidden charges to watch for
- Fitting or edging charges — some shops charge separately to cut the lens to your frame.
- Coating add-ons — anti-glare or blue-cut quoted separately after you’ve agreed a lens price.
- Travel and time — two trips: one to drop off your glasses, one to collect them.
- Courier fees — online services that charge for pickup or return shipping.
Ask for a final, all-inclusive price before you hand over your glasses.
Is it cheaper than buying new glasses?
Usually, yes — you’re paying for lenses only, not a new frame. It makes the most sense when your frame is in good condition, you like how it looks, or it’s a branded frame you paid well for. If the hinges are loose, the rim is cracked or the frame is very old, a new pair can be the better buy. (Our frames start from ₹599, with lenses priced as above.)
How doorstep lens replacement works
- Check your pincode and choose your lenses online.
- Upload your prescription, or send it later on WhatsApp.
- A courier partner picks up your glasses from home — free.
- Our opticians fit and power-check the new lenses.
- Your glasses come back to your door, typically in 3–6 days.
Tip: if you wear glasses all day, keep a backup pair handy for the few days your specs are with us.
The bottom line
Expect to pay from about ₹800 for good single vision lenses and ₹2,800 or more for a quality progressive. Compare the final price, not the headline one — and check whether pickup, fitting and coatings are included. See full details on our lens replacement page.
